HEIRS is a volunteer-run organization, and our work depends on people who share an interest in preserving and sharing the history of Harrow, Colchester, and the surrounding area.

There are many ways to contribute. Some volunteers help with our collections and research resources, while others assist with events, publications, programs, or behind-the-scenes activities. Whether you have experience with historical research or simply enjoy helping your community, we welcome your interest.

Ways You Can Help

We are especially interested in connecting with people who have skills or interests in areas such as:

• Historical and genealogical research

• Organizing photographs, documents, and archival materials

• Digitizing and preserving historical records

• Writing, editing, or proofreading

• Photography, design, or communications

• Technology and website support

• Helping with events and community programs

• Sharing knowledge about local history​

You do not need to be a historian to volunteer with HEIRS. A willingness to learn, contribute, and work with others is just as valuable as specialized experience. Many of our volunteers contribute in small but meaningful ways, and every contribution helps us preserve local history.
