Mission from our Constitution:
The mission of the Society is to promote and advocate for the preservation and study of genealogical and local history in the original Township of Colchester and its surrounding municipalities, with a peripheral interest in the Detroit-River region.
Purpose from our Constitution:
To promote the collection and preservation of relevant artifacts and written materials related to local and family history.
To maintain a library of printed and electronic works, off er research assistance to those seeking help with historical research, and develop volunteer opportunities.
To promote the study of relevant materials and, whenever possible, to publish transcriptions, indexes, and original works related to local and family history.
To encourage heritage education by offering lectures, courses, research visits, exhibitions, and electronic resources.
To aid and cooperate with other organizations pursuing similar goals in Essex County, including historical societies, libraries, archives, museums, churches, and educational organizations.
To promote the preservation of historical artifacts and heritage buildings.
